Plagiarism Policy
Journal of Start-Up Innovation and Management (JSIM) has a zero-tolerance policy towards plagiarism. All submitted manuscripts will be checked for originality using plagiarism detection software.
What Constitutes Plagiarism?
Plagiarism is the act of presenting someone else’s work or ideas as your own, with or without their consent, by incorporating it into your work without full acknowledgment. This includes:
- Direct Plagiarism: Copying text verbatim without quotation marks and proper citation.
- Mosaic Plagiarism: Borrowing phrases or ideas from a source without proper citation, or changing a few words while maintaining the original sentence structure without attribution.
- Paraphrasing Plagiarism: Restating someone else’s ideas in your own words without proper citation.
- Self-Plagiarism (Duplicate Publication): Reusing substantial parts of one’s own previously published work without appropriate citation and disclosure. This includes submitting the same manuscript to multiple journals simultaneously.
- Image/Data Plagiarism: Using figures, tables, graphs, or data from other sources without proper attribution.
Consequences of Plagiarism
Any instance of plagiarism, regardless of its extent, will lead to serious consequences:
- Rejection of Manuscript: The submitted manuscript will be immediately rejected.
- Blacklisting: The author(s) may be blacklisted from submitting any future manuscripts to SIM for a determined period.
- Notification: In severe cases, the author’s institution and/or funding bodies may be notified.
- Retraction: If plagiarism is discovered in a published article, the article will be formally retracted, and a notice of retraction will be published.
Prevention
Authors are strongly encouraged to:
- Cite All Sources: Always provide proper citation for all ideas, data, and direct quotes that are not your original work.
- Use Quotation Marks: When directly quoting, enclose the quoted text in quotation marks and provide the appropriate citation (page number where applicable).
- Paraphrase Carefully: When paraphrasing, ensure you genuinely rephrase the original content in your own words and always cite the source.
- Reference Management Software: Consider using reference management software to help organize your citations and bibliographies.
- Review Plagiarism Policies: Familiarize yourself with our plagiarism policy and generally accepted academic standards for originality.
By submitting a manuscript to Journal of Start-Up Innovation and Management, authors implicitly agree to abide by these guidelines and policies.
